Those fortunate enough to have health, dental, and vision insurance may take for granted how valuable these resources are. Being able to get new glasses when you need them or have necessary dental work performed can significantly impact your quality of life. For these reasons, Sacred Heart was proud to partner with Congregation Shir Hidash for the Healthy Living Fair on Sunday, October 15th.
Volunteer doctors, nurses, and students provided free health, dental, and vision screening to over 200 community members. Shir Hadash and support organizations like Lions Club and Tzu Chi Foundation transformed the Sacred Heart into a health clinic with mobile clinics and pods to provide hearing and dental services.
Dr.Kevin Fell of Shir Hadash articulated the vision and goals of this year's Healthy Living Fair. "Our goal is to bring medical, dental, vision, and hearing care to those who might not otherwise receive it. By fixing some urgent problems now and screening for other important medical conditions, we can identify health issues and give people information and resources to find other sources of care throughout the year. It's always a pleasure and a great honor to provide this service."
The Healthy Living Fair was a massive undertaking, with over 100 volunteers providing 420 plus health services to community members free of charge. Sacred Heart's Senior Director of Development, Elizabeth Matthews, explains why Sacred Heart is excited to continue its partnership with Shir Hidash Congregation.
"Events like this help us to alleviate the symptoms of poverty and make meaningful connections with great community partners like Shir Hadash. We look forward to partnering with them again next year."
