Public Charge Information

Public charge does not apply to all immigrants. Every family is different, and the programs that help your family might not be part of new changes to the policy. Recent decisions by federal courts have significantly altered the “public charge” landscape, creating uncertainty about the extent to which the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS’s) public charge regulations are in effect, but certain issues and facts are becoming more clear.

  • More information can be found at the Protecting Immigrant Families website.

  • The Rapid Response Network in Santa Clara County serves as a community defense project developed to protect immigrant families from deportation threats and to provide accompaniment support during and after a community member’s arrest or detention.

  • Email the Sacred Heart’s Economic Empowerment team to see if you should apply for public benefits.
