Every Gift is Meaningful
Since we moved to San Jose 11 years ago, my husband Jose and I have both benefited from the organizing and policy work that Sacred Heart Community Service has done for the immigrant community here in San Jose. But I first came to know SHCS as a volunteer.
Over the years, I have sat on the Policy & Organizing Committee, the Education Committee, become a member of the Board of Directors, and spoken at important meetings in front of local and state legislators on behalf of immigrant rights and school reform policies. After 11 years of being an active volunteer, I am recognized as a leader within the Latinx community, and I make sure to spread the word about all of SHCS' programs and services at every event I attend.
Sacred Heart is one of the few organizations that does its work in an honest manner. I want to do what I can to ensure it endures. I see how many people have needs and how SHCS is relied upon within the community. As a volunteer, I respond to those needs, and it is very satisfying.
Now, I am not only a volunteer, but I am a proud donor to our Building Community Together campaign. I invite anyone in the community to give even a small amount to this important cause and to help preserve the important work this agency does for our community. For those who can, please consider taking what you spend on a meal at McDonald’s, or a coffee, or a bus pass, and donate it to Sacred Heart’s campaign.
Even a small amount will be meaningful.
Sincerely,
Maria Rico
