Donor Perspective: Kathie Sheehy

Kathie in our new building at 550 South First Street

“I was first attracted to SHCS because they recognize that education and monetary assistance for housing/utility expenses are necessary for many, as well as food and clothing. Since I began volunteering, I’ve been impressed with the respect SHCS shows to everyone - members, volunteers, donors, and everyone else.

Since a recent tour of both buildings with Rachel and Ana, I came to understand why more space is needed so dignity and respect can be offered - privacy for members to discuss their very personal problems, and space for program staff to help administer services. Soon after this, my husband Mike and I increased our donation to support this expansion.

Giving back is important to me, but I didn’t think I’d have enough time or money to make a very large impact during this campaign. Yet by letting my friends know the great work SHCS is doing, and asking them to support the campaign, more support is being provided than I’d imagined.

‘Many small donations from many’ is the whole thrust of this campaign. So a small amount of effort from me turns out to be playing an integral part in ensuring many people in our community have better lives.”

Kathie Sheehy has a 30-year relationship with SHCS.  She has served on the Board, made donations, volunteered with the capital campaign in the late 1990s and volunteered with holiday programs, office work, food box sorting and the after-school program.
