Campaign Update

After ten months of active donor engagement and fundraising, we’d like to thank the 183 donors that have given or pledged a total of $5,835,611 to this campaign.  In addition SHCS has secured funding from the Federal government’s New Market Tax Credit program which will yield $1,573,533 million in revenue for this purpose.

Our total goal for this project is $20 million from 10,000 supporters.

At minimum, we will need $12 million to fully purchase and remodel our new building at 550 S. First Street and finish improvements to our existing center at 1381 S. First Street.  These improvements include reopening our computer lab and phone center, adding community meeting spaces, and creating a pantry and clothing closet that provide more dignity.  SHCS is committed to fiscal responsibility.  The remaining $8  million is intended to build up our reserves so that we are able to maintain our buildings and respond quickly to community needs in times of crisis. While we expect some additional large contributions from institutional sources, SHCS is continuing and expanding our tradition of support from friends and neighbors in our community.

Our goal is to engage 10,000 donors in this campaign with gifts starting at $5.

We believe that when people participate at any level they can feel a sense of shared ownership and pride over our community spaces.  No gift is too small to demonstrate we are truly a community united.

One hundred percent of our current board has contributed and we have just launched a fundraising effort by all of our staff.  Additionally, we have built a community campaign committee and are grateful for their feedback and willingness to work together to help others fundraise from friends and family.
