Survivors of the Streets

Survivors of the Streets (SOS!) is a team of community leaders who are or have been unhoused.

We are community organizers who believe that the people closest to the pain should be the people closest to the power. As such, SOS! was formed in 2019 to create space for people who are currently or were formerly unhoused to influence decision-makers and local policy decisions.

We believe that if unhoused people organize in large numbers, we have a unique ability to change public perception, wield power over policy decisions, and shift cultural norms about members of our community who are people of color, people who identify as LGBTQ, and people who are low income.

In the current COVID-19 pandemic, SOS! is striving to make clear that unhoused lives matter and make sure that people who are unhoused have access to healthcare and sanitation.

We have long understood that many of us are simply one health incident or accident away from being unhoused and do not wish that situation on any others.
