Safe Secure and Loved- Resilient Families Celebration

For the last 10 years Sacred Heart Community Service’s Safe, Secure, and Loved-Resilient Families program (SSL-RF) has been educating parents on how to build resilience in themselves and their young children. This community-led, mindfulness based parenting program uses a research based approach which empowers families to give their infants and small children the best possible start in life.

On Friday, June 23 Sacred Heart hosted a celebration to commemorate a decade of successful program delivery. Parent leaders, volunteers, Sacred Heart staff, and local elected officials including Santa Clara County Supervisors Cindy Chavez and Susan Ellenberg were present for this important moment of recognition. Self Sufficiency Director Mercedes Carbajal explains why this event was so important.

“The unique piece of SSL is community and we have an amazing community. To see our promotoras (parent leaders) facilitate workshops and share their lived experience to encourage others to adopt more resilient habits is inspiring. I am proud of this community healing community model and of my team who makes this possible in all of Santa Clara County. It was so invigorating to celebrate the past work, the people who made this possible and the promising future of this program.”

There was music, food, conversation and a presentation highlighting program strategies and successes over  the last decade in addressing protective factors and well-being in families and the larger community. The presentation shed light on the effective strategies implemented in the past decade to tackle and prevent child abuse and neglect. It also highlighted the remarkable accomplishments achieved in measuring the protective factors and overall well-being of families and the broader community.

The SSL-RF continues to impact the lives of parents and caregivers in our community. For information on how to take part in the next cohort please contact: Lesly Landaverde Urias (leslyu@sacredheartcs.org or call 408-709-4590
