PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT: La Mesa Verde 2022

La Mesa Verde recognizes that industrial food production and sale is designed for profit, at the expense of our environment, our community and our health. Here at La Mesa Verde our gardeners challenge injustice in the food system by producing their own food in a supportive community, and by organizing for real changes that improve access to food in San José.

To combat this problem, La Mesa Verde has partnered with Pie Ranch and Fresh Approach to purchase from local new farmers, female farmers, and farmers of color  affected by the pandemic and benefit smaller groups like La Mesa Verde with organic produce.  For the last 11 weeks La Mesa Verde has been secured 60 organic produce boxes for the LMV community who has been experiencing food insecurity.
