Program Spotlight: Energy Assistance

As the weather turns colder and wetter, it becomes more and more crucial that everyone has the appropriate connection to heating and power. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a federal program administered at Sacred Heart that serves the most vulnerable members of our community, particularly homes with young children, people with disabilities, and elderly family members.

Here’s a quote from A.E., who received HEAP assistance last year: “I needed help with my electricity and gas. I told my son; he lost his work because of COVID. His wife was sick, their child was sick; he lost his work because his family got sick. HEAP has provided us the relief we need to focus on getting well.”

Sacred Heart Community Service administers this program for the entire county, so even if you’re far away from our physical address, you might still be eligible. We also work with a partner organization, Central Coast Energy Services, to weatherize eligible homes, which will lower future energy bills.  Last year, Sacred Heart provided energy assistance to over 11,700 residents of Santa Clara County. With Coronavirus cases surging in many parts of the county, it is crucial to ensure that those who are the most vulnerable have a comfortable and safe home to quarantine in.

If you are experiencing high energy bills and are at risk, here’s how you can contact HEAP:
